HEAVEN ON EARTH
Ghost Gallery, LOS ANGELES
February 29, 2020 (in collaboration with Fever Dream)
Looking back at this event, I’m so eternally grateful that we had the opportunity to create before isolation. I just want to say thank you to everyone who came, who believed in us and stuck with us through all the difficulties and stress. My heaven is with you, it manifests itself in the faces of strangers with whom I strive to become friends. Through art made in vulnerability, and self expression shown in sanctuary. My heaven is androgynous and feminine and masculine and everything in between - but always, always in the warmest light. My heaven is found in your happiness, I have so much to be thankful for. —Kyla
END OF SUMMER SHOW
Frankston, MELBOURNE — March 7, 2020
Within 72 hours, this show was sold out. Our biggest event in Melbourne so far, we pulled together a lineup of five bands (The Grogans, Velvet Bloom, The Belair Lip Bombs, Stimpies and Seaweed on Sticks), with over a dozen visual artists and six film-makers, to explore themes of summer, adolescence, freedom and nostalgia.
With a line far out the door, vans parked up on the hill, kids all over the front lawn and the hall constantly packed — the night was a head-spinning dream.
BACKYARD FRIENDS HOUSE SHOW
Frankston, MELBOURNE — Jan 25, 2020
With a vision to combine our local art and music scenes in a suburb setting, we hosted our first Melbourne house show! Our DIY stage was played by friends Indigo Mckeon, Speed Mullet and Stimpies, with a headlining set from local favourites The Gurdies. In amongst the craziness, we had art hung all over the walls from a series of local artists and photographers, angelic face-painting from our lovely Pip, an interactive message board (that you filled with the most beautiful thoughts), and more. The vibe was indescribable! Our dream night.
ISSUE 2 FUNDRAISER
Wrangler Studios, MELBOURNE — Oct 11, 2019
Our first Melbourne show, inspired by Abby’s return to Melbourne after a month spent in California with Kyla. Played by some of our favourite local bands of the time — The Belair Lip Bombs, The Gurdies and Velvet Bloom — and held at our favourite Melb venue (known for it’s cheese toasties and in-house dog, Oslow), we SOLD IT OUT! The night was a pivotal experience — we launched stickers + a new t-shirt design, met new friends, and it felt like the beginning of building a real community in Melbourne. <3
INSOMNIA HOUSE SHOW
THOUSAND OAKS — July 20, 2019
(in collaboration with Kids Next Door Art Co. — 3/3 of our Summer Tour ‘19)
For our last show of the summer, we wanted to get back to Kids Next Door’s roots, and create a space as intimate and family-like as possible. Around 150 people packed out a backyard in suburban Thousand Oaks for our Insomnia House Show, dressed up in PJ’s and lingerie. We set up a vendors market and then danced for hours to local bands The Calicos, Siam Jem, Sir Please and The Campbells. Also, it happened to be Abby’s last night in America - so thank you for making it the most perfect last night possible!
ART PROM
The Vortex, LOS ANGELES — July 10, 2019
(in collaboration with Kids Next Door Art Co. — 2/3 of our Summer Tour ‘19)
Our main event of the summer, there are no words to describe the lead up to, and the night itself, of Art Prom. We’re working on bringing you some more long-form content to properly express how the event felt to put together and attend, but in the meantime, just know it was one of the most beautiful nights of our lives, and still feels surreal. We sold out The Vortex in Downtown LA with over 300 of you angels, and all the proceeds went to LA Family Housing and Gurls Aide. Played by The Blank Minds, Breakup Shoes, Siam Jem, Buddha Trixie, Postcard Boy and Parking Lot ft. Nina, with over twenty artists and vendors & a dreamy short film corner, Art Prom 2019 was everything we dreamed of and more. Thank you for making it what it was!! <3
THAT 70’S SHOW
SAN DIEGO — July 6, 2019
(in collaboration with Kids Next Door Art Co. — 1/3 of our Summer Tour ‘19)
Our San Diego kick-off show was amazing! Over 200 of you beautiful people turned out in your 60s and 70s best, and Kyla and I spent the night handing out flowers and balloons and dancing our hearts out. Love to everyone we met that night! Played by Buddha Trixie, The Blank Minds, Fox Tide, Glow and Eric Schroeder, with a surprise appearance from Ignant Benches.
