So yet again we have reached the end of another month! Upon tradition, we have collected favorite songs from every staff writer and collated them into a February 2018 Staff Playlist.
At the end of each month, we all recommend a song to include on the staff playlist of the month, here are our favourites from January! Ranging from The Stroke to Kali Uchis to Rex Orange County, there’s something for everyone. You can listen to it here
The San Diego based band, Cardboard Boxer, released their latest single earlier this week. “Must Be You” is a raw, but fluid track that reflects the band’s alternative punk rock sound.
This summer, Scottish singer/songwriter Kerri Watt released her single, “Old School Love,” and enchanted many by telling the heart-warming story of falling in love the old school way.
JARA is an extremely talented indie- pop musician from the one and only, San Diego. We have the privilege to debut his latest release today; the new & funky single, “Coachella Girls,” is certain to be a hit with its catchy beat and smooth vocals.
If you’re looking for that song to play in the background of your romantic summer montage, look no further. LA based artist Ryan Frailich brings groovy beats and perfectly sappy lyrics with his newest single, “Beauty Queen.” The punchy electric guitar and trumpet add complementary elements to this poppy track that took me by surprise, but totally worked. You’ll definitely feel like a classic babe listening to this, with lyrics like: “You got stars in your eyes, yeah you look like a beauty queen.” Ryan’s vocals have that classic you-can’t-go-wrong pop idol quality, and layered over the background vocals, they make you want to get to a dance floor ASAP.
Capturing the perfect scenery for a music video is hard to do, but that is exactly what Maadwest from L.A. did with their brand new video for their song “Be My Show”. This duet sang by Tipper Newton and frontman Matty McNamara, is the second song off their LP “I Can’t Believe We’re All Idiots”, filmed in the always beautiful Yosemite National Park. The video is filmed by Mikai Karl, who travels and captures beauty in any setting, with a relaxing track.
