On May 23rd, 2017, at the House of Blues in San Diego, hundreds of fans lined up to see the British rock band, Catfish and the Bottlemen. With the tour bus parked out front and fans lining up since 7AM, it was evident that this was going to be a night to remember.
After sitting in line for seven hours waiting for the doors to open, you could feel the energy level rise as security started letting people enter the venue. People raced down the stairs attempting to get as close to the stage as possible where members Van McCann, Johnny Bond, Benji Blakeway, and Bob Hall would be in just a few short hours.
Opening up the night was the Canadian alternative rock band, July Talk, who kept the audience on their feet and dancing until Catfish and the Bottlemen entered the stage. Consisting of members Peter Dreimanis, Leah Fay, Ian Docherty, and Josh Warburton, there wasn’t a dull moment when they were in front of the audience.
When Catfish finally made their way on stage, the screams from the crowd were deafening enough to leave your ears ringing for days. Playing fan favorites “Kathleen” and “Twice,” McCann’s performance was electric along with Bondy’s unfaltering riffs during “Soundcheck” and “7.” Every song was played with raw emotion oozing out of every note and the excitement of the audience never had the opportunity to dull. The passion emitted from the band during every song was unreal and the disappointment amongst the crowd was evident when the band exited the stage after closing up the night with “Tyrants.”
The whole night was incredible and being surrounded by hundreds of people all with the same love of music was a transcendent experience that I’ll never forget. Even after spending an entire day waiting on the sidewalk for the concert to begin, I’d still spend a whole lifetime waiting just to see them perform again.
Huge thank you to Alexis for sending over these photos from the show, and allowing us to use them. They will also be up on her blog, The Sonder, as well as a collection of awe-inspiring concert photos, so make sure to go check that out!
