Destroy Boys is a garage punk/rock band from Sacramento, California consisting Alexia Roditis with vocals, Ethan Knight on drums, and Violet Mayugba on vocals and guitar. Ethan and Violet have been friends since they were thirteen, but the band officially started in October 2015 when “Alexia and I,” Violet states, “coincidentally happened to meet, and have been making music together ever since.” The band’s passion for music is evident throughout their songs, and paired with with an iconic name, Destroy Boys, there’s no going wrong. On March 11th, I had the privilege of talking to the boys who are a part of the indie band from San Diego called, “Stray Monroe,” about their first EP release. The members include: Blake Imperl, 22 (Lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Adam Hakes, 24 (Lead guitar and vocals), Brett Kelly, 19 (Bass guitar) and Colin Croft, 21, who plays the drums. To get to know the boys a little bit better, I asked them all for “one really funny child hood memory.”
Formerly known as “Adult Films,” Inspired and the Sleep’s Max Greenhalgh and Bryce Outcault are back at it with a new name: The Thens. We were able to talk with them briefly after the second edition of You Are Going To Hate This Fest, thrown by The Frights at Soma San Diego.
Moments in time that many just look over and dismiss as a fleeting feeling, German photographer Josh Kern has captured our attention with his awe-inspiring images on film. Some may overlook these feelings in the moment, move on to the next face, the next motion, the next word that seems to distract from the importance of this second, of right now. We live our lives too fast to realize the emotion and reality in everyday. I am forever envious of people like Josh, who are able to stop, realize, and snap a photo. Here’s a collection of some of his favorite pieces paired with a song that captures the energy.
